The Lake Park Raiders were spotted in Niles on February 11, 2017
Some of them drove in and some of them rode in and some of them hobbled in but they all converged on the Western Reserve Fish and Game Club in Niles, Ohio for a fun-filled day of perforating white copy paper with hot lead! Of course I’m talkin’ about this week’s current incarnation of the Lake Park Raiders!
Eighteen sharp-eyed Cowboys and Cowgirls came out to shoot. Friends came out to see friends and help get things set up, watch the excitement, and visit some. A good time was had by all and that room was pretty Dern full!
Thanks to Seamus and Bobtown Cooter for donating targets. Special thanks go out to Hagen for coming in early and remounting the new cardboard for us. Thank you to Curly and Idaho FAS for helping with “sign-up” and thanks to Wyatt N. Erdy for his help tallying scores and donating awards. Big thanks to Veddy Badman for donating his “Clean Shooter” poker chip awards. Thanks to RO and MD Jerry for all his help and expertise.
The always cheerful Lady Kat prepared, brought, and served a delicious Sloppy Joe lunch for us; Sloppy Joes, chips, and pickles, cookies and candy! Yum! Thanks Kat!
Thank you to everyone for helping with those all-important posse duties, brass picking and target sticking, timer operation and unloading table duties, set-up and take-down, offering suggestions and anything else I neglected to mention.
We shot 5 stages of really interesting and well-thought out scenarios! HaHa! I think everyone liked them--I’m running out of short movie lines! I’m gonna have to do some more research--Sit on the couch and watch more old westerns!
We shot the Blazin’ Kane sharp-shooter sweep and the Hooligan Figure 8, the BIG X and the Krazy Thom, and of course the Slow Mo sweep. I’m really likin’ that Slow Mo sweep; that was made for Gunfighter style shootin’! And those big shotgun targets? They were made for shootin’ Lawman style!
New York native, Inspector Holmes, shot 1st place today and Billy Badazz came in second. Famous Seamus came in third place and Slow Mo held his own at 13th place! Not bad! I wasn’t fast enough to retrieve my notebook and pencil to write any more details so I’ll just say Congratulations to all our winners!
Look to see the Tall T sweep, the Diablo sweep, the Hoot sweep, and the Pinto Kid sweep at our Last Thursday Open Class Free Style Work-shirker Match coming up on February 23, 2017.
Get well wishes go out to Missouri Jake and Suety Hawk; they are a little “under the weather.” Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. We hope they get better soon!
I hope everyone had a good time and went back home happy and well-fed. We also want to see our new shooters come back and shoot another round with us. New shooter Sonny D left smiling so we might see him back again!
See you next time,
Slow Mo Dern

One day it will be possible to post the match scores on our website!
“Cowboy Action Shooting is a wonderful sport and these activities promote honesty, moral correctness, a love of history, and it’s a heck of a lot of fun!” - David Chicoine
Think about it, where else could you go and dress up like a cowboy or western movie actor, talk like you were from Wyoming, even though you grew up in Akron, enjoy your favorite sport (shooting) and play the ham all at the same time without the slightest chance of being ridiculed?
Go out there and try it, you’ll be glad you did!
