Sun Dance anyone? Rained-out Thursday CAS match

Thursday May 25, 2017

Hopefully, everyone got the message; the Brookfield Work Shirker Match was cancelled. The Brunswick Kid and I went out to the range early Wednesday morning to paint and move some targets, set up a few props, and talk about scenarios.

We had a couple hours of dry (as in not raining) weather and the sun actually shone through the trees for a short amount of time just as we were wrapping things up.

The Brunswick Kid pulled out his phone to get a “milk and bread check" and noticed Joe’s cancelled-match email. This called for immediate laughter from both of us.

The good thing is – we’re all set up for June 10th. All the targets we’ll use are painted white. There’s the Lawrence Welk sweep and a fast stage 2, hit the running elk and a fast 5 on the big square, ring the bells with the Curly shuffle and proceed to stage 3.

Stage 3 is my little tribute to Powers Boothe aka Curly Bill Brocius. Lotsa double taps and Joe’s Tusco sweep. Look out, Curly Bill!

This will be a fun stage because Hagen just added a new long range target to this scenario that we’ll use in the future. Variety is the spice of life and this’ll spice things up a bit. Spicy is good!

The Nido de Ratas Hotel stage starts off with a couple of Sixgun Seamus sweeps followed by a rifle reload and a choice of 3 targets to hit. Restage the rifle and make a geographical transition to the Rat Hotel and shoot some rats! Do it Lawman Style for extra fun!

Stage 5 is my familiar plate rack scenario plus a 9 round Culpepper sweep-very fast and very fun stage. “9 rounds with Jose Cuervo!”

The last stage, number 6, is the Lonesome Dove stage, Woodrow! I found it online at the CAS City forum. It’s a purdy cool sweep that can be shot with a couple variations but it’s up to the shooter to figure the best way that suits ‘em. You can shoot the same sweep using a different variation! Shooter’s choice! Not complicated but very fast and easy for a last stage.

Hope to see everyone on June 10th. Have a happy Memorial Day weekend!

God bless our Veterans.

So long for now,

Slow Mo Dern

Cowboy Action Shooting is a wonderful sport and these activities promote honesty, moral correctness, a love of history, and it’s a heck of a lot of fun!”

- David Chicoine

“Think about it, where else could you go and dress up like a cowboy or western movie actor, talk like you were from Wyoming, even though you grew up in Akron, enjoy your favorite sport (shooting!) and play the ham all at the same time without the slightest chance of being ridiculed?”

Go out there and try it, you’ll be glad you did!
