The June 2017 Thursday Work Shirker CAS Match at Yankee Flats Cowboy Town
Well friends, it was a warm and sunny day in the old growth forest under the old growth trees where the old trees grow-eth.
13 enlightened shooters came out to ring some organic steel in Mother Nature’s own air conditioning and channel in their inner cowboy personality. There were old growth trees, lottsa new growth trees, some old growth shooters, and I even saw an old growth on one of my knuckles! But that didn’t stop us from having a good time and getting back in touch with Mother Nature!
We shot up a growth of shotgun shells and clay birds. The trap machine worked like a daisy but Daisy, the running elk, was a little flaky – more tweaking required on this baby!
The Nido de Ratas Hotel was again filled with those nasty steel rats and were terminated with gusto! A goodly state of merriment was had by all!
Today’s match was the Last Thursday Work Shirker Open Class Match but nobody but Mo shot “open class”. I was doin’ fine shootin’ two-handed like a daisy, so I didn’t want to change from my comfort zone! HaHa!
The sweeps were simple, fast, and furious at times and I received several compliments. “That sweep was a real daisy, Mo!” I heard that a lot today! Oh, oh, that was the “ready line”. Oops.
I’m always interested in your comments and suggestions so never hesitate to let me know what you think. Our most used sweeps are suggested by friends who would like to try something different or try out an idea to see if it works. Some suggestions are “daisies”, some are not, but I’ll try anything once!
Billy Badazz came in First, Sixgun Seamus came in Second, Krazy Thom, came in Third, Low Plains Drifter came in Fourth, and Slow Mo came in Fifth!
Mo, Joe, Duelin’ Diehl, and Hagen missed shooting a clean match by 1 miss. AwwShoot! We need a ribbon!
The Clean Match ribbon today went to the Brunswick Kid! Congratulations Kid! He was hoisting the Walkers again! He should be pretty ripped by the end of summer!
Congratulations to all our winners and participants!
Big Ed and Shane, fellow club members, came out to be amazed and to watch us shoot today and Shane participated in his first Cowboy match. He didn’t come in last place either! Congratulations Shane! Now about that hat……! Yikes!
Big thanks go out to everybody for all your help and hard work at the match and before the match, getting the range ready, mowing the grass, letting us use your equipment, and the long list of stuff too numerous to mention. Big thanks to you, big thanks to all!
Special thanks to the folks who bring in supplies and hardware for us to buy and use. We can’t participate in matches without it and we appreciate it!
Prayers up for our fellow pards, partners, and their partners who are going through some rough times right now. Please keep them in your thoughts.
Veddy Badman and Suety Hawk have been heard from; they’re alive and doing well, no cause for alarm. They will hopefully see us this summer!
I hope no one got caught up in the traffic jam on Route 76 and I hope everyone got home safely.
Join us on July 8 for our first July match. We always shoot on the second Saturday and last Thursday of the month.
See you on the cowboy trail, (or in the cowboy forest!)
Best wishes,
Slow Mo Dern
Cowboy Action Shooting is a wonderful sport and these activities promote honesty, moral correctness, a love of history, and it’s a heck of a lot of fun!”
- David Chicoine
“Think about it, where else could you go and dress up like a cowboy or western movie actor, talk like you were from Wyoming, even though you grew up in Akron, enjoy your favorite sport (shooting!) and play the ham all at the same time without the slightest chance of being ridiculed?”
Go out there and try it, you’ll be glad you did!
