"You be Ten Bears?"

CAS at Brookfield! July 27, 2017

It was the Last Thursday Work Shirker Open Class Match!

What a nice day! It was a good day to go shoot in the woods, not too hot, not too humid, fair and warmer, partly sunny, partly cloudy, and partly funny!

We had an exciting match with flying birds and a big square flying squirrel target. There were running elks that were running! and little bell targets that were ringing!

An urgent message was sent us to “Get moose and squirrel!” Which we did! Mo got a “P” on this one and was out of bullets so he didn’t get to shoot Rocky the Squirrel. I accidently performed the perfect Krazy Thom sweep instead of a Krazy Nevada sweep! Ooops!

The Clantons were after Doc and Kate and there were bonuses to be had! Bottles and flappers and Clantons with blue badges!

Elmorita was at the saloon with her keg, she’s no daisy! More bonuses to be had, gongs, renegades, and more rats to terminate! There was a geographical transition to be made on stage 5 and 6, poultry to pulverize, bottles to blast, and a plate rack to obliterate – twice!

Last, we shot the Josey Wales sweep, “I reckon it was right popular!” A good time was had by all!

The sheriff of Yankee Flats wasn’t there but he sent us a wire. It was made of copper and we hung it on the wall. We’ll find a use for it, eventually.

Uneasy rider was uneasy; he doesn’t like to shoot 6 stages, it lessens his chances of keeping it clean! He made a long geographical transition to come shoot with us and I know he was having fun! It was the rat hotel! He was wearing a big smile!

Everyone was in the top ten! We wrapped the match up early this Thursday and now it’s time for ribbons and door prizes!

Krazy Thom was our First Place winner and Swiftwater Jack was our Second Place winner. Laramie Leadslinger was Third and Ol’ Slow Mo came in Fourth! Bronco Billy was Fifth and Duelin’ Diehl was Sixth. Shenango Joe was Seventh and Uneasy Rider was Eighth followed by Hagen and Rattlesnake Ruby.

Hagen was shootin’ smoke and fire with his new revolvers and decided to shoot the Rat Hotel Lawman style with his ’97 and go faster than any speed known to man or beast! Yeeeeowww! Third degree burn time!! That barrel gets hot!

The Brunswick Kid was stuck in traffic and never made it to the match. We’re glad it was only slow traffic and nothing tragic.

No ladies today to pick up the brass. We had to do it ourselves! Sort it too! The “brass girls” were sorely missed. I knew we should have tipped them with Dairy Queen money last time! I hope they’ll come visit us again someday!

A big thank you to the members and friends who came out to help set-up and take-down, donate equipment, make stuff and fix stuff, and do stuff. It was a great help. We always appreciate the extra hands.

Please keep our friends who couldn’t attend this match, in your thoughts and prayers. Get well soon friends, we’re thinking of you!

August 12th, 2017 is our next match. It’s the second Saturday in August. Look for more fast and furious, fun-filled scenarios, sweeps, and stages!

You might witness flying birds, running elks, elks running backwards, Comanches, Clantons, bad hombres, saucer racks, and maybe a hotel rodent population needing extermination, and maybe a rat stampede! Maybe even a sign of the Black Foot tribe! Ya jus’ never know!

If you have an idea for a sweep or stage or just want to try something different, put a suggestion or comment into the “comment box” or let me know directly and we’ll try to do it for you. We’ll try to make it workable!

Remember, visitors are always welcome to our Cowboy matches. Come out and take a look! You might discover an exciting new hobby!

Don’t forget to bring earplugs and safety glasses!

So long for now,

Yours truly,

Slow Mo Dern

Cowboy Action Shooting is a wonderful sport and these activities promote honesty, moral correctness, a love of history, and it’s a heck of a lot of fun!”

- David Chicoine

“Think about it, where else could you go and dress up like a cowboy or western movie actor, talk like you were from Wyoming, even though you grew up in Akron, enjoy your favorite sport (shooting!) and play the ham all at the same time without the slightest chance of being ridiculed?”

Go out there and try it, you’ll be glad you did!
