Shenango River Rats do CAS in Brookfield, Ohio! Saturday June 9, 2018

"Who put these targets out so far....Hagen?"

"Maybe."

"Do you have to stand so close?"

"I don't want to miss nothin'."

"Are you the Timer Operator or a spotter?'

"Neither one!"

Mo sez: "Yuh gotta cock yer piece! All the way back...'til it locks!"

"I know how to do it!" sez Ben.

"Is that a real hat-band or a Sears hat-band?"

The early roots of cowboy shooting in the 19th century....

CAS at Brookfield, Ohio with the Shenango River Rats!

Saturday June 9, 2018

Fourteen Single Action Shooting Society members in good standing came out to the Brookfield Conservation Club to ring some steel, bust some birds, save Calamity Jane, engage some outlaw rats with red ‘staches, engage some clean-shaven yella’ outlaws, and blast a whole pastel of color-coded outlaws with striped shirts known as the Bad Hombres!

A colorful time was had by all! Move over, Walt!

Rowdy Red Tailor was our first place winner today! Congratulations, Rowdy Red! He made it through the match unscathed even though he was sportin’ a goodly red ‘stache!

That’s all I know for scores. I wasn’t present with notebook in hand to record all the facts. Catch ya next time!

Speaking of scores; big thanks to our TG, Swiftwater Jack for coming in to score for us, handle sign-up and registration, and offer his expertise! Thanks, Jack!

Thanks also to Ohio Silver for all his help with sign-up, lunch, scheduling, and all the many tasks he does to help things run smooth!

Kat made us a good lunch of ham sandwiches, chips, macaroni salad, and chocolate cupcakes! Yum! Thanks, Kat!

Thanks to Duelin’ Diehl; he was our “shuttle-bus” operator today and he did a fine job! He’s an expert with geographical transitions! Thanks for everything, D.D!

Congratulations too, on winning Hagen’s Windmill side-match! Ol’ Double D walked away with a glass trophy-boot full of money!

Loquacious Loner came out to shoot with us today. He’s the gentleman who gave us the good-lookin’ cacti that grace Miss Katie’s Cactus Corral. Thanks, Loquacious!

He’s a long-time cowboy and today he brought his pal, Larry. Welcome, Larry. Larry looked like he had a good time and went home with a smile! He was our only “new” shooter.

I have forgotten Larry’s alias but it was a good’un. My apologies, Larry! Come back and see us again!

Thanks to everyone for all your help and participation! Thanks to you, everything ran smooth as a silk bandana! We finished in good time for today ‘cause it looked so much like the rain was coming! We lucked out again!

Our next match is Thursday June 28, 2018.

It’s the Thursday Work Shirker Open Class CAS Match.

It’s the match where you can try some things that are new, different, and exciting! Be a Gunfighter or a Duelist, or a Double Duelist! How exciting is that!

You can even shoot the plate rack Outlaw Style or do yer Rat Blastin’ Lawman Style! The list is endless! Yippee!

Spectators are always welcome but please bring your eye protection and ear protection, it’s mandatory.

Hope to see you soon,

Slow Mo Dern

Cowboy Action Shooting is a wonderful sport and these activities promote honesty, moral correctness, a love of history, and it’s a heck of a lot of fun!”

- David Chicoine

“Think about it, where else could you go and dress up like a cowboy or western movie actor, talk like you were from Wyoming, even though you grew up in Akron, enjoy your favorite sport (shooting!) and play the ham all at the same time without the slightest chance of being ridiculed?”

Go out there and try it, you’ll be glad you did!
