The Shenango River Rats Rode Again! Saturday August 8, 2020!

"Well, looky here! 45 television western stars!"

"I see the Lone Ranger, Festus, Doc Adams, Dan Troop, and I think Johnny Crawford is holding the tennis racket!"

"Did they jest eat or are they waitin' to get in?"

Looks like there be more ribbon ties than bandanas!

Brookfield CAS! The Shenango River Rats Rode Again!!

Saturday August 8, 2020!

Howdy!

Things started off “rocky!” on this muggy August day! I mean, we got off to a rocky start and didn’t get started until about 10:30 am.

I wonder if it was because we had 13 shooters…

I left home with my trailer right on time and followed every Slow Mo all the way to the club and had to stop for road repairs to boot! Those road crews were up early!

I decided to make coffee in the club’s plugged up Bunn coffee maker and had to get learnin’ from Joe on how to run it right. Everybody seemed to know what to do but me…go figure.

Joe Capp’s gun cart took a somersault “gainer” dive off Jake’s big trailer on the way to the range and it expired in a heap. That’s ok, he has kindlin’ for this winter!

The plugged up gun barrels were the real “heartbreaker!” Sorry, Joe.

Good-hearted T.J. Lawdog presented him with a collapsible baby stroller at the end of the match. Joe just has to take it home and make a cart out of it. Thanks, T.J.

Joe Capp and I shared my gun cart through the match and everything was fine.

The first stage was at Shenango Joe’s Mercantile -- busting full, flying pop cans and doing the Brunswick Kid’s Big X sweep! What a hoot!

“I love the smell of ‘sodie pop’ in the morning!”

Next, we did the plate rack and the Josey Wales sweep at the Cactus Corral; it’s always “right popular.” Then it was on to the hotel to blast some nasty rats and do the Nevada Sweep with the Double Tapped Ends!

We stole that one from the Brown Township Regulators! Swiftwater liked it.

Granny Oakley was accidently hot-lead baptized in the ol’ back porch by a lightning fast gunslinger on the blue ribbon road. Oops!

It’s okay, Doc, it’s only a scratch…didn’t even go through! I’ll put a Bandaid on it for next time!

The last stage was at the Fort with a 3 target scenario. I chose the 3 targets with the most “clang!” in’em. Not all our targets ring so I try to get the most from the ones that do!

That Coleman Cooler water in the tasteful little bottles sure tasted good today! I drank me a mess of it! Glub, glub!

Pack it up and get to the clubhouse! There are prizes, scores, score sheets, and food!

Kat made us Italian sausage sandwiches with peppers and onions, potato chips, hot Tortellini salad, coffee, and these little cream-filled round balls with tasty chocolate icing on’em!

Thirteen happy shooters came to ring the steel on this hot muggy day with no air flow whatsoever under the trees. Low Plains Drifter was sitting in a white cloud of cigar smoke and looked downright mystical!

Clean-shootin’ Krazy Thom won the match. Congratulations, Thom!

Second Place went to Loquacious Loner and clean-shootin’ Low Plains Drifter came in third.

Fourth place went to sharp-shootin’ Swiftwater Jack and fifth place went to clean-shootin’ T.J. Lawdog.

Sixth place went to Brown Ribbon winner Slow Mo Dern. AwwSh**t, I almost shot a clean match! Oh, well. Better luck next time!

Hagen, today’s black powder aficionado, finished in the lucky seventh position followed by t’other black powder aficionado, the Brunswick Kid coming in eighth!

Shenango Joe won the ninth place spot with a clean match and our other black powder aficionado, El Dorado Jim, won the tenth place spot! He was almost clean! AwwSh**t too!

Eleventh place went to Rattlesnake Ruby followed by brother Deadwood Dave finishing in twelfth place.

We always save the best for last! The “lucky thirteenth place” went to Senior Shooter, Joe Capp!

Congratulations to all our winners and participants!

Thank you, folks, for all your hard work helping to make this match a real, genuine success.

The big trailer was provided by Missouri Jake. Thank you, Jake.

Thank you, Kat, for making lunch.

Thank you to The Brunswick Kid and Hagen for coming in early and setting up the Cowboy Range, tractor, trailer, blankets, and props. Salute!

A big salute goes to Swiftwater Jack for arriving early and handling registration and sign-up chores. He also kept score and tallied the results at the end of the match. Thanks, Jack!

Our next Cowboy Action match is on

Thursday August 27, 2020.

Spectators and visitors are always welcome but you must bring your safety glasses and hearing protection. Thank you.

So come out and spend a day shootin’ under the trees with the Shenango River Rats on Thursday August 27, 2020! We’ll leave the air on for yuh!

Be safe and God bless,

Slow Mo Dern and the Shenango River Rats
